As a baseline, Trento measured the general total magnetic field around Santa Cruz to be about 480 milligauss with an inclination angle of 50 degrees. By contrast, the northwestern corner of the entrance platform gave a reading of 4570 milligauss and 59 degrees of inclination. Trento remarks, “This is the only Mysterious Place along the Pacific coast where such a radical change in magnetic field and angle occurred.”
